About

Designing agentic AI systems people can trust, understand, and control

Gabriela-Aurora Statie

Human-AI Experience Designer & AI Accessibility Specialist

I’m building a specialized practice at the intersection of accessibility, UX, service design and AI, focusing on one critical question:

How do we design AI systems that all people can actually trust and use?

Most AI agents today are being built without accessibility considerations, creating both legal risk (UK Equality Act 2010, EU Accessibility Act, ADA) and excluding over 1 billion people with disabilities.

Traditional UX design doesn’t account for AI’s unique challenges: autonomous operation, conversational interfaces, multi-touchpoint systems, probabilistic outputs, and the need for both frontstage and backstage design.

My Approach

I’m building a specialized practice at the intersection of accessibility, UX, service design, and AI — focused on how agentic systems behave in real-world contexts, not just interfaces.

My work centers on designing systems that are controllable, legible, and inclusive by default, with a particular focus on multi-agent behavior, containment risk, and long-running human–AI interactions.

I combine AI-specific frameworks like Microsoft HAX Guidelines with foundational principles – Nielsen Heuristics, Google Conversational Design, WCAG standards, to systematically evaluate AI agents. How do you audit trust when the system learns? How do you test clarity when outputs are probabilistic? How do you design error recovery for autonomous agents?

My expertise is applying these frameworks across AI’s emerging modalities: conversational, voice, multi-agent systems, and documenting what actually works in practice.

I work through collaborative facilitation, not top-down consulting. The field of AI agent design is still emerging, we’re figuring this out together. I facilitate workshops where we co-design solutions and build capability, rather than creating dependency on external consultants.

Background

I’ve spent 15+ years in UX/Product Design across agencies, multinational corporations, and startups—working in healthcare, cybersecurity, and gaming. These are all highly regulated industries where accessibility and compliance aren’t nice-to-haves; they’re mandatory.

For the past two years, I’ve focused exclusively on human-AI experience design—systematically auditing AI agents, testing frameworks, and documenting what actually works in practice.

My work bridges three disciplines: human-AI experience design (making AI usable), accessibility (making it inclusive), and service design (understanding the entire ecosystem). You need all three to build AI products that people can actually trust and use.

Credentials:

  • IAAP CPACC & WAS certifications (in progress: June & December 2026)
  • Service Design Certificate, University of the Arts London (2025)
  • UX Professional Certificate, UX Design Institute, Dublin (2018)
  • Computer Science Diploma, Romania (1996-2000)

Current Focus (2025-2027)

My immediate focus is mastering the foundational modalities:

  • Conversational AI: Chatbots, custom GPTs, AI assistants
  • Voice interfaces: Voice assistants, phone-based agents, hands-free interactions
  • Multi-agent systems: Orchestration, handoffs, coordination across multiple AI agents

I’m currently completing IAAP certifications (CPACC in March 2026, WAS in June 2026), professional credentials that demonstrate systematic expertise in accessibility standards, testing methodologies, and legal compliance requirements.

Future Direction (2027+)

I’m simultaneously researching how these principles extend to spatial computing and physical AI AR/VR/MR interfaces, humanoid robots, autonomous systems. As these technologies reach mass market from 2027 onward, the accessibility and trust challenges will be even more critical.

We’re building a future where AI decides what jobs you can apply for, what healthcare you receive, whether you can navigate public spaces independently. If accessibility isn’t built into these systems from the start, we’re architecting exclusion at scale, leaving over 1 billion people with disabilities behind in a world increasingly mediated by AI.

The question isn’t whether these technologies will arrive. It’s what kind of future we’re building when they do.

How We Work Together

If you’re building AI products:

The field of Human-AI experience design is emerging. None of us have all the answers yet. I facilitate collaborative workshops where we co-design solutions together, building capability rather than dependency.

Long-term relationships matter more than transactional projects. I’m committed to advancing accessible AI design as a field, not just building my business.

I’m not here to be a “thought leader” or claim I have all the answers. I’m here to apply proven frameworks, document what works and what doesn’t, and help teams avoid costly mistakes. I can help with:

  • AI Accessibility Audit: Identify WCAG, HAX, and legal compliance gaps
  • Inclusive User Testing: Real-world validation with users who rely on assistive technologies, screen readers, or have diverse accessibility needs.
  • AI UX & Service Design Audit: Comprehensive system-level evaluation
  • Training Workshop: Upskill your team in human-AI experience design

If you’re learning Human-AI experience design:

The industry is shifting fast. Job titles are changing, traditional UX roles are evolving, and AI is redefining what “interface design” even means. For designers navigating this transition, whether you’re pivoting from traditional UX, upskilling in accessibility, or just trying to understand where you fit in this new landscape, I’m launching the Agentic Design Community  in Q2 2026.

It’s a space for collaborative learning, hands-on exploration, and peer support as we figure out what human-AI experience design actually looks like in practice. No lectures, no thought leadership theater, just practitioners learning together.

If you’re an entry-level designer trying to break into the field, a mid-level practitioner upskilling, or just exploring what this space even means, these resources can help:

  • Digital Toolkits: Ready-to-use frameworks, video examples, and patterns
  • Community (launching Q2 2026): Collaborative workshops and peer learning

Open to Collaboration

I believe the best work happens through collaboration, not isolation. I’m actively seeking partnerships with AI companies, XR/spatial computing teams, robotics companies, accessibility lawyers, researchers, independent AI developers, and content creators interested in advancing accessible AI together.
